My mother never coped or properly grieved the loss of her mom

My grandmother was always a prominent figure in my life growing up and was a stern role model, almost the ‘glue’ of our family. When I was 17 my grandma died unexpectedly. My mother never coped or properly grieved the loss of her mom, and ended up turning to alcohol and developing an addiction. To this day it still creates havoc on our family. I truly in my heart think had my mom received ‘closure’, and grieved her loss I wouldn’t have lost my mother to addiction. Though she’s physically here, she’s much different than we know and remember.
