I still remember how hopeful he was

Is of my maternal grandfather who died 23 years ago. I still remember how hopeful he was and how hopeful I was he would be OK; only to have both of our hopes dashed when he died a month and a half after being diagnosed with cancer. I took me over 15 years to say the word died and his name in the same sentence. Everytime I do, I am still brought to tears.
